Notes from the Chief Medical Director
Welcome back to my update on what is new and exciting at Hospice of the Sacred Heart! Staying current with all the new and state of the art topics surrounding hospice and palliative care can be a challenge for all of us who work in end of life care. Our field is rapidly progressing and it is now estimated that 40% of all patients that die in the United States are now accompanied by a hospice professional at some time along their end of life journey.
One of the larger challenges of our medical subspecialty is to care for those patients in rural areas that traditionally have not been well served by hospice programs. However, we at Hospice of the Sacred Heart are committed to providing for the needs of patients and families — wherever they live. Our vision is to serve the end of life needs of everyone in our extended community.
We are proud to announce that we are now serving a 9 county area from Susquehanna County down the I 81 corridor to the eastern region of Schuylkill County. In response to a specific need to bring our services north, we are opening an additional office in Montrose, nestled in the heart of scenic Susquehanna County. So whether our patients live in Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre, Scranton or Montrose, we are prepared to offer the professional, compassionate and experienced care that our patients, families and healthcare providers have come to expect.
If we can help with any of your end of life needs, or if you simply have a question, please feel free to call anytime. Rest assured that with Hospice of the Sacred Heart, you are not alone.
