Hospice of the Sacred Heart is a non-profit, free-standing hospice program providing comprehensive hospice services to residents of Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton and the surrounding communities. Our main office is located at 600 Baltimore Drive in Wilkes-Barre and we also have a Center for Education at 340 Montage Mountain Road in Moosic. We are committed to providing quality care as well as advancing the knowledge of hospice care to the community we serve.
Hospice of the Sacred Heart was founded in May, 2003 because of the inspiration and motivation of Dr. Frank A. Bucci Jr., currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors, who desired to begin a hospice agency in our area. One year later, in May, 2004, Hospice of the Sacred Heart was certified by Medicare and Medicaid as a Hospice program. This non-profit organization was located at 130 Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard in Wilkes-Barre. Unprecedented growth occurred shortly afterwards, and the agency to date has served over one thousand patients and families.
Hospice of the Sacred Heart is a member of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Program (NHPCO), National Palliative Nurse Association (HPNA), Pennsylvania Hospice Network (PHN), American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), as well as the Wilkes-Barre and Scranton Chamber of Commerce. Hospice of the Sacred Heart is also very proud to be accredited by the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP). The majority of nurses, our Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer are board-certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
